US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) - This agency is responsible for regulating securities exchanges in the US. The  U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's mission is to protect investors and maintain fair and orderly markets. It also facilitates capital formation. All companies that wish to conduct business on the US exchanges are required to file registration statements, periodic reports and other forms with the SEC. All of this information is free and is searchable in the EDGAR database that can be found on this website. 

Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation  The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency created by the Congress to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation's financial system by:

insuring deposits,
examining and supervising financial institutions for safety and soundness and consumer protection, and
managing receiverships.

This website will provide a list of banks that have been closed due to bankruptcy. There are useful links in case your bank has been closed on various questions you may have concerning your money. 

Federal Reserve - this is the website for the Federal Reserve which is the central bank for the US. There is quite a bit of information on this website that would be useful to investors.

Internal Revenue Service - The tax collector for the US. All the tax forms and information about income tax in the US are on this website. 

United States of America Government - the United States Government website - this is the main portal where you can access federal government services. There are also links to federal, state and local government websites.
