US Financial News Websites (best websites at the top of the page)

CNBC - from the television network CNBC. This is the top financial television network in the US. There is a lot of information on this website. It has a lot of advanced market data for professional traders and investors. It is still quite useful for the amateur investor as well. 

Market Watch - the website for the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Barrons. The portfolio tracker is good. It would be better if you could customize it better so that it is more compact but it does have everything you need. The option quotes work for all US stocks. This is an advanced investing website targeting professional traders and investors but is useful for amateur investors as well.  

Yahoo Finance - the finance website for yahoo.com. Generally quite good and one of the biggest financial websites on the internet. The US news content is good and the portfolio tracker is  good and compact. It is customizable to the metrics that you would like to see. Up to 200 stocks can be tracked in a stock list. The options do not work for all US stocks. 

CNN - Money   - the financial website for CNN. Generally quite good. Not as advanced as say CNBC or Marketwatch in its stories. 


Reuters   - from the company Thomson Reuters. Lots of news on this website. Financial news is a fairly important part of the business for Thomson Reuters. There is a lot of global financial data here. You can customize it for the region that you are interested in. It has a lot of current data on it. It should be noted that financial data is one of the specialties of Thomson Reuters. 

Bloomberg   - from the company Bloomberg. Similar to Reuters website. There is a lot of global data. 

MSN - Money - the money website from Microsoft. It has a lot of articles on there targeted at the people who are learning about money management. 

Daily Finance (AOL) - the financial news website from AOL. Generally a good website. It has news and tickers from various indexes and stock exchanges as well as gold, oil and the 10 year bond. It has a news wire that gathers articles from many different sources so it does have a large variety of articles which may not be found on other websites.

Wall Street Journal - this is the website for the Wall Street Journal. This newspaper is probably the most influential in the US for financial matters. There are a lot of articles on here that cater to the trader as well as the everyday investor. 

Daily FX - a financial website that tends to focus on news tailored to the advanced investor or trader. There are various tips on the website from analysts on what they are investing or shorting. 

New York Times - the website by the New York Times newspaper. It is one of the most prestigious newspapers in the US. There are a number of articles about various business stories occurring in the world. It is split up into a number of sections so there are also political stories that affect businesses. There are a whole range of other topics such as investment banking and deal books that target the traders on wall street but there are plenty of articles targeting the everyday investor. 

CBS Money Watch - the financial site of CBS moneywatch. It has a lot of articles on investing as well as financial news. It's target audience is middle income people who are looking towards saving enough money for retirement. There is a section of articles on retirement. 

Fox Business - the financial website from Fox news. Lacks some of the news that the other major news websites have. The website is not tailored to the advanced or professional investor.

E Wall Streeter - this is a financial website that has a lot of news links to various stories on various different websites. It is up to the minute and quite good. It is popular with traders as you can get links to financial stories on multiple websites. 


Google - Finance - the financial website from google. It is still in its early development stages. It still needs to add more content and features to compete with its competitors. 

MSNBC - Business - the business section for MSNBC. It targets the everyday person. There are articles about general business news from the US and around the world. Some trends can be found from reading articles on this website that can aid the investor.  

Investor Guide- plenty of news on this website. It points out articles written on other websites. The reader can customize the news to see technology, investing, economy, business or world news. There is a lot of data on here that appeals to all levels of investors. There is a nice section that enables investors to research stocks. There are financial data, news as well as some analysis. 

CBS News - the business section for CBS News has a number of articles that  target the average person. They are interesting articles but are not really targeted at investors. 

Huffington Post - Business - the business section for the huffington post. It has articles targeted at individuals interested in business news. There are articles mainly about the US but there are also articles about the world economy. 

 

USA Today - Business - the business section for the USA Today. Its a general interest business section that targets the general population. There are articles that do give trends in business. 

 

The Briefing - this is a website that has both a free portion and a pay portion. The free portion is under the individual investor (services) has information on stocks and other economic trends. The stock analysis is really outdated and it does not really state anything other than a review of the conference call.
