Some tips for finding the right financial advisor/investment advisor for you

- look at their qualifications (CFA, CPA, CFP, CMA, CGA, RFP, MBA, B.Comm.  etc) on this website   http://www.iiroc.ca/   (Investment industry regulatory organization of Canada)

- look up their dealer on http://www.osc.gov.on.ca/    (Ontario Securities Commission) to make sure they are registered

- under the investor section the financial advisor can be checked to see whether there are any complaints or disciplinary actions against him/her

- check http://www.securities-administrators.ca  (Canadian Securities Administrators) to see whether they are registered with them

- ask questions of your advisor such as their experience, how are they compensated, what kind of products do they offer, what professional organizations are they a member of, what level of service will they provide, discuss your goals and find out how the advisor will help you reach your goals.

Bank of Montreal - has advisors within the Bank branches as well as with Nesbitt Burns their subsidiary that provides financial advisors.

CIBC - has a number of financial advisors that can provide varying levels of service. They also have a private wealth company as well as a full service brokerage.  

TD Bank - have financial advisors that can provide advice for clients across Canada and the US.  

RBC - have financial advisors across Canada to assist clients in their financial goals.  

Scotia Bank - have financial advisors across Canada to assist clients.  

National Bank- - has a number of financial advisors across Canada.

Vanguard Canada - is a large US mutual fund company that offers mutual funds in Canada and the US. There are financial advisors with Vanguard Canada. combination financial blog website and a news site. It gets a feed of

Investors Group - is a mutual fund company that has financial advisors available for clients.

Raymond James - is a large US financial company that has financial advisors in Canada and the US.

Assante - is a national financial advisory firm owned by CI Financial.

Stewart & Kett (Toronto) - is an advice only financial planning firm. They do not get trailer fees from mutual fund companies. 

Ryan Lamontagne Inc. (Ottawa) - this is a fee based financial advisory firm.  

Retirement In View (Ottawa) - this is a fee only financial planning firm.  

Campbell Financial Advisors (Toronto) - provides financial planning services for the greater Toronto area.  

Potvin Financial (Ottawa) - is a financial firm that serves the Ottawa area. 

YourCFO-Ottawa.com - Jim Armiento (Ottawa) - is a financial firm that serves the Ottawa area.
